The Kodiak Canvas 9 x 8 Tent is great whether you are headed to the campground with your family in the mountains or by a beach, or elk camp with your hunting buddies. This rugged, all-season tent is great for the occasion. Made with premium grade, Hydra-Shield, 100% cotton duck canvas (walls: 8.5 oz , roof: 10 oz).

The tight weave and silicone finish make the canvas tent watertight yet breathable, minimizing condensation, and mugginess. Go ahead and touch the inside walls during a downpour - this canvas will not wick water keeping you and your possessions dry.

The Flex-Bow frame has tempered, spring steel rods that keep the tent taut, and robust 1 inch steel tube poles that will hold up to fierce winds. The floor material is a super-duty, puncture resistant, 13 oz vinyl with welded seams that keeps water out. Easy, one-person set-up takes only a few minutes after you have it staked out.

The steep walls and 6 foot high ceiling provide a roomy interior with stand-up, walk-around comfort. Two large doors with top rated #10 YKK zippers give convenient access to front and back. Four windows, and two vents allow ample air-flow. Windows and vents have no-see-um screen mesh, keeping out the smallest pests.

A large awning provides shade and a covered entry. The handy large zippered storage bag means no cramming into an undersized bag. Hefty 12 inch steel stakes included. Warranty This tent includes a limited lifetime warranty from the manufacturer, Kodiak.

Great canvas tent
If you are looking for a canvas tent this is a good choice. Unique setup but after one time no problem. Straight walls gives plenty of ceiling height. Canvas material heavy, park close to where you are camping, but canvas insulates better than nylon.

burning man tent.
needed a new tent after my nylon tent ripped my first year the corners tore in high wind. roof leaked dust. and overall. a regular nylon tent proved disposable. a bit of research recommended a canvas tent. so picked up the 9x8 canvas tent. was by my self so figured 9x8 was big enough. but using a queen size air mattress. 9x8 is small and uses most of the floor space. 10x10 would be the smallest size for a queen size air mattress and have a little extra room. but 9x8 did work. so far have used this tent 3 seasons. and it is still holding up great. keeps dust out in the worst dust storms. as it zips up tight. added guy ropes to the two roof support poles. and it held up to the strongest wind gusts @ 50 mph+ . sets up fast. very durable. fast and easy to setup. great headroom. probably the best tent for burning man. and a good tent for any camping. Recommend this tent to many campmates. might get the 10x14 I use the tent for two week events and 9x8 worked. for more people or longer get the biggest you can afford. (Updated on 1/14/2013.)

Service, Quality, Price, Pick any two?
In this day it is hard to find quality and service at a competitive price. However, I found all three buying my Kodiak #6098 Tent through Competitive Edge products. I ordered via the Internet Sunday and set it up in my back yard today, the following Thursday, two time zones away.

Great Value
Quality materials, construction, and well thought out design. A lot of tent for the money. Easy set up and take down by one person. It takes longer to pound in the tent stakes and pull them out, than it does to set up the tent. I have set it up twice, and have used it once, on a four day weekend, it did rain. No leaks anywhere. Also, the staff at Competitive Edge is very professional and helpful.

Q: On a scale of 1-10, how well does this tent protect from the elements such as rain, sun, and hot/cold climates?
Asked by: Maddie - 7/15/2015
A: After you have seasoned the tent (set up the tent, wet it down with a light water spray, and allow the tent to dry completely) the tent does very well with keeping rain out. Canvas is fairly heavy material compared to nylon tents and it is does very well with keeping sun out too. Canvas does breathe a bit, but if you do not have windows open in hot temperatures, the tent can get pretty hot inside. The tent is excellent is cold temperatures. Numbers are subjective, but if you twisted my arm, I would say rain - 9, sun 9, hot 7, cold 9.

Q: I see that there are different basic, deluxe, and super deluxe versions of the tents that are larger. Does the 9' x 8' tent come in other versions? Is this the deluxe?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: The 9' x 8' tent model 6098 is the ONLY nine for by 8 foot Kodiak tent period. It is definitely considered a deluxe model. It has four windows instead of two. It does not come in any other version. The 10 foot and the 14 foot models do come in basic, deluxe, and super deluxe models.

Q: I'm tempted to purchase one of the larger tents, but it is just me and my wife. Would we be able to get by with this tent?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: Definitely! If there are just two of you this is THE tent to go with. It is plenty of room and then some for a couple. If you camp with a lot of extra gear and have the need to keep that in your tent, then the 10x10 models may suit you a little better. The height of the ceiling is the only thing worth noting. If you are tall (6' or more) your head will be touching the ceiling. If you are 5'10" like me, then you hair my brush up against the ceiling slightly.

Q: I know that it says it has a lifetime warranty, but realistically, how many years can I really get out of this?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: Realistically, it does indeed last a lifetime. The lifetime warranty does not cover some things though and it is worth noting that. It does not cover misuse or negligence such as storing it soaking wet where it can get mildew. It doesn't include extended constant use such as leaving it up all summer each year. If you go camping casually on weekends a handful of times a year you will get a lifetime of use.

Q: I see that the main poles are telescoping on this model 9' x 8'. Is that the case with the larger tents? It seems like this is the most compact when it is stored.
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: The larger tents do not telescope like the poles on this model. This particular model is the most compact when everything is disassembled and put in bags. That is, it takes up less room not only because it is a bit smaller than the other models, but the telescoping pulls allow the pole bag to be about 2 feet shorter than the other models. It is quite popular for cyclists, bikers, ATVs, and other small vehicles.

Q: This looks like the walls are more vertical on this model than any of the others. Is that true?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: Possibly. However, the difference is so minimal I don't know what the precise measurement is. Having used this model and other models this does feel like it has the most vertical walls. That doesn't include the cabin tents though. Those walls are definitely completely vertical.

Q: Is there a recommendation on how to deal with the awning when it rains? It seems by default it will start to pool up and put a lot of extra weight on the tent. What do you recommend?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: If it is raining you often don't want the awning up at all especially if it is windy. However, there may be times when you keep it up at night and a surprise rain storm shows up. In those case, it is a good idea to simply adjust the poles so that the rain finds its way to the left or right (where ever you want). Leave the awning out to dry. You don't want to store it wet.

Q: I see that this model has the airflow vents. Do the airflow vents allow a breeze to go through the tent?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: The airflow vents to allow some airflow, but I would not call it "breeze". It provides more ventilation and air circulation than a breeze. If you are looking to get a breeze you would want to open the windows, but if you simply need a little bit of air circulation, then you would want to open the vents.

Q: This tent comes with a ton of stakes. Do I really need to use all of them if I'm not expecting any wind or rain?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: It is a good idea to use all of the stakes, because there are those moments where a microburst could catch you by surprise and potentially damage your gear or ruin your camping experience. You need a minimum of four stakes simply to hold up the tent, but we highly recommend putting all the stakes in. As grandma always says, "lazy people always work the hardest in the end" :-)

Q: What happens when it is raining and I don't have time to let it dry out before we have to leave?
Asked by: Customer - 7/30/2015
A: Many campers get rained on during the camping trip and are not able to drive a tent out at the campsite. It is okay to roll it up wet as long as you try it out immediately when you get home. Keeping the tent rolled up wet for a long period of time will eventually create mold and mildew causing the tent to look, smell, and perform badly. Some people will set this up in the garage or carport propping it up with ladders or chairs or something so that it can air out properly. It is ideal to set it up on your lawn at home, weather permitting.

Q: Does it have an electrical port?
Asked by: C - 9/5/2015
A: This model does not have an electrical port. The only models that do have the electrical port is model 6133 and model 6121. It isn't so much port as it is an opening in the tent design for an extension cord. It is still quite easy to run power to the tent as each door has two sets of zippers and a flap to cover the zippers giving you protection. We do not recommend using power in rain or snow or excessive wind or any environment that can cause a dangerous situation or threat of fire.

Q: If 10' vestibule fit on 9'x8' model?
Asked by: benoit - 9/14/2015
A: Unfortunately, it would not work since the awning is a different size. I'm sorry for the bad news. We do not have a vestibule that works for the 9' x 8' model.

Q: I have extreme chemical sensitivities, which is why I am looking at canvas tents. I am concerned about the silicone water repellent treatment in the fabric, and the coating on the flooring material. I read a review that the flooring has quite a strong odor that takes at least 2 weeks to dissipate. Is it possible to get fabric samples so I can test to see if I react?
Asked by: Stephanie - 9/10/2016
A: Unfortunately, we don't have any samples. I'm sorry for the bad news. I have had no reports of customers having any issues physically. When you set up the tent is simply smells like a brand-new tent and after you air it out the only thing I can smell is the canvas which is the smell of camping for me now.

Q: I just bought the small 6x8.5 Kodiak tent from you, and I absolutely love it! This small tent will do nicely for my canoe camping needs. Now I am in the market for a slightly bigger version for car camping. I thought the 8x9 was a good fit, but I noticed it costs more than the basic 10x10. I like the weight of the 8x9 better. Can you explain why it costs more than the 10x10? Thanks !
Asked by: Ralph - 5/31/2017
A: Customers will often ask why the smaller 9' x 8' tent is more expensive than the larger 10' x 10' tent. The reason is that the 9' x 8' tent is a deluxe model that has the extra bells and whistles including two extra windows and the more expensive 10' x 10' Kodiak tent is simply the basic model with less windows, no airflow vents, etc. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.
